After the 2020 Met Gala was cancelled owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 event was the much-anticipated one. Celebrities walked the red carpet after one year and four months and fans got the chance to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars in the most fashionable outfits.
This year's theme - "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" - corresponds to part one of a two-part fashion exhibit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2021 and 2022. The first part will honour the Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary and debut on September 18, five days after the gala.
While many celebrities like Kendell Jenner, Megan Fox, Billie Eilish, Ella Emhoff made stunning appearances, Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, Hillary Taymour and Kim Petras missed the ball keeping on their court.
Let's look at the best and worst dressed celebrities this year on the red carpet:
The actor made his Met Gala debut and was seen in formal wear but with a spin. The 'Duke' star arrived at the event in a white suit designed by Haider Ackermann and was looking refreshing. He also co-hosted the event alongside Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman.
The 19-year-old singer after winning big at the MTV VMAs, Billie Eilish looked magical in her peach custom tulle corset gown by Oscar de la Renta.
The model stunned in an ethereal see-through gown with crystals embedded in it.
The actress knows how to rock any outfit. She was seen in a pink two-piece and a shawl jacket. She looked absolutely stunning.
The 'Riverdale' star stunned in a semi-sheer floral gown with a lengthy train. Her look was designed by Project Runway alum Christian Siriano.
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian hogged the limelight with her undercover look. The star arrived wearing a Balenciaga and her look was teamed with a ponytail and heels. Even though she made heads turn, her look was not up to the mark.
Hailey Rhode Baldwin Bieber walked the Met Gala red carpet hand-in-hand with her husband Justin Bieber in a black gown with a plunging neckline. She accessorized the look with a statement diamond necklace and dark sunglasses. For a grand event like Met Gala, her look was too simple.
The singer looked cute in her '70s inspired look but it was too casual for a high fashion event. Her ensemble included a sparkly purple crop top and skirt.
The new mommy and supermodel, Gigi Hadid walked the red carpet in a white Prada dress with a high-thigh slit. Though she looked like a '60s queen, her outfit missed the glitz and glam required for Met Gala.
The Spencer star was seen in a pink Chanel top and white pants and was serving retro vibes. Though her hairdo was cute, her entire ensemble didn't make the mark.
