The United States recognises the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and Arunachal Pradesh, according to a rare bipartisan Senate resolution. Three Senators introduced a resolution in the US Senate that reaffirms Arunachal Pradesh as an “integral part of India”, and supports India’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity”. The resolution also condemns China for the “use of military force” to change the status quo at the LAC, and lauds the “Government of India” for the steps it has taken to “defend itself” against the “aggression and security threats” from China. The resolution was introduced by Jeff Markley and Bill Haggerty in the Senate and co-sponsored by John Cornyn. Markley is a progressive Democratic Senator from Oregon, Haggerty is a former US ambassador to Japan. And Cornyn is the co-founder and co-chair of the Senate India Caucus. The introduction of the resolution is titled “Reaffirming the state of Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory and condemning the People’s Republic of China’s provocations in South Asia”.
