Manipur Violence: Indian Amry To Bring In More Troops From Assam, Nagaland To Restore Peace

Violence broke out in Manipur between tribals and the majority Meitei community which has displaced over 9,000 people from their villages.  However, precautionary build-up of additional troops in Manipur. Additional columns also re-deployed from Nagaland. 

Meanwhile, Indian Air Force will be undertaking flying operations to induct additional Indian Army columns commencing tonight from Guwahati and Tezpur.

The situation has been brought under control through coordinated actions by all stakeholders. IAF undertook continuous sorties from two airfields in Assam employing C17 Globemaster & AN 32 aircrafts. 

Violence broke out during 'Tribal Solidarity March' called by All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in Torbung area of Churachandpur district to protest the demand of non-tribal Meiteis, who dominate the Imphal Valley, for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
